What to try
- Move the left boundary and resize the white area in the mask.
- Fill allowed pixels or draw across the boundary. Deselect and repeat to remove the restriction.
What to look for: The mask is a diagram of the allowed region. Deselecting changes that permission without erasing any image pixels.
How it works
A rectangular selection has an origin, width and height. It clips drawing, filling and filter results to that region. Pixels outside it remain unchanged even when the underlying effect computes a larger temporary image. This distinction is useful for comparing the same treatment in adjacent regions.
Copy and Cut use the selected bounds. Move changes the position of selected content, while Crop changes the document dimensions to those bounds. Deselect removes the editing constraint; it does not erase the selected pixels.
Use it in the Lab
Use Select in the Lab’s Draw pane, refine the pixel bounds, and preview an effect on that area. Copy a detail onto a separate layer before moving or comparing it.
Limits & distinctions
A selection is not a saved layer mask. The current editor does not provide arbitrary lasso paths, feathered masks or independent per-layer mask images.
