Build the rules.
Follow the image.

An image becomes a starting condition. Code changes its structure. Each result suggests the next move, until pixels find a physical form.

A working study

One image. Four stages. Your decisions carry forward.

Stage 1 / 04

Start with something worth changing.

Vintage cameras, algorithmic generation, hand-drawn marks, and public domain imagery provide the raw material that seeds every artwork.

PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP or AVIF · up to 20 MB. The study fits the longest side within 384 pixels without stretching or cropping. Animated files use their first frame.

A new source begins a new study. Photographs, scans, marks, and generated fields can all set the starting conditions.

The decision

Look for structure before detail. Soft textures, generated fields, and geometric tiles each give the next operation a different starting condition.

The practice

The constraints leave their mark.

01

Constraints as Material

Low resolution is not a limitation — it's a compositional tool. 640×480 forces clarity. JPEG artifacts become texture. Dot matrix imprecision becomes collaboration. Every constraint narrows the search space and amplifies creative signal.

02

Algorithm as Collaborator

The code is not a tool — it's a co-author. The artist defines rules; the algorithm explores the space those rules create. The best pieces emerge from the tension between control and emergence — where the output surprises even its creator.

03

Digital → Physical

The print is not a reproduction — it's a translation. Each production method interprets the digital master differently. The modified printer preserves intent; the dot matrix reinterprets it. Both are valid. The medium is part of the message.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the 4 stages of BVDART's creative pipeline?
BVDART creates each artwork through four sequential stages: (1) Source — raw material acquisition from vintage cameras, algorithmic noise generators, hand-drawn marks, and public domain imagery; (2) Engineer — custom algorithm design combining convolution kernels, fractals, cellular automata, and color quantization into unique generative pipelines; (3) Processing — iterative refinement using a proprietary 128-key software panel to shape color, composition, and fine detail across dozens of iterations; (4) Produce — professional giclée printing on archival-grade paper with colour calibration, quality control, and worldwide shipping. Each stage is fully documented in the Process section.
How long does creating one algorithmic artwork take?
Each artwork has a different history. While some undergo dozens to hundreds of iterations over days, others were created in mere minutes. In the end, all that matters is the result.
