What to look for: Sorting only rearranges contiguous eligible runs. Channel offsets read different source locations, while scanlines multiply selected rows by 0.30.
How it works
Pixel sorting reorders runs of pixels according to a tonal condition and direction. Changing the threshold changes which regions participate. Channel offset displaces color channels relative to one another, separating color edges. Scanlines darken repeated rows according to spacing and strength.
These treatments emphasize different structures: sorting turns regions into directional streaks, offsets create chromatic separation, and scanlines impose a periodic surface. Their order matters when one effect changes the values another uses to decide where it operates.
Use it in the Lab
Use the Glitch category for controlled parameters and the cashier presets for familiar fixed gestures. Record combinations with quantization, edge treatments or gradient mapping when a repeatable texture emerges.
Limits & distinctions
The scanline effect is a stylized row modulation. It does not simulate a complete CRT, phosphor layout or physical display response.
