What to try
- Choose PNG, JPEG or WebP and inspect what happens to transparency.
- Change the output scale and encoding quality, compare the actual byte count, and download the file.
What to look for: The byte count comes from the browser’s encoder. Pixel dimensions, compressed file size and editable project structure describe different things.
How it works
PNG preserves raster samples with lossless compression and supports transparency. JPEG uses lossy compression and has no alpha channel. WebP supports both transparency and compressed photographic imagery. The chosen format affects file size and what information survives the export.
Pixel dimensions determine the available image detail. Integer enlargement with nearest neighbor preserves a pixel-art grid by repeating samples. Changing a DPI label does not create image detail. Physical print size depends on how those pixels are distributed over paper.
Use it in the Lab
Download a .bvdart project to preserve editing structure. Use PNG for crisp artwork and transparency, or choose JPEG/WebP in the export controls when their tradeoffs suit the destination. Check dimensions before sending an image to print.
Limits & distinctions
The Lab has a 4096-pixel side limit and does not write a press-ready CMYK or ICC-managed print file. Confirm profile, size and production requirements with the printer.
